Adhering to principle of periodic revision salary to compensate for general price increase, the Government of India has announced the hike of DA for Central Government Employees from 80% to 90 percent of their basic pay plus grade pay. The DA will be with effect from July 1, 2013. Consequently, the Dearness Relief of Pensioners would also be increased to 90% with effect from that date.
The increase in DA for Central Government Employees was approved by the Union Cabinet on September 20, 2013. This increase will benefit 5 million serving Central Government employees and 3 million government pensioners. Though there have been repeated denials by the Government of India about the proposal to make the Central Government Servants’ retirement age 62, it is evident that the subject is very active in the corridors of New Delhi for quite some time now.
